Lake Wilderness Park

Maple Valley's lakeside park, with about 117 acres of shoreline, forest, and lawns.

  • Swim beach with lifeguards in summer, plus boat rentals
  • Boat launch for non-motorized and electric boats only (no gas engines)
  • The 40-acre Lake Wilderness Arboretum next door
  • Play area, picnic shelters, and the Green to Cedar Rivers Trail

Gnome Trail

A flat 0.7-mile loop through the woods with little gnomes hidden along the way. Easy for small kids.

  • At the Maple Valley Legacy Site on Maple Valley-Black Diamond Road SE
  • Home of the seasonal Maple Valley Farmers Market
  • Access from the farmers market parking lot

Cedar River Trail

A 17.4-mile trail along the Cedar River from Renton through Maple Valley to Landsburg. The first 12.3 miles are paved, and the last 5 are soft-surface.

  • Great for walking, running, biking, and strollers on the paved section
  • Meets the Green to Cedar Rivers Trail in Maple Valley
  • Wooded, quieter stretches toward Rock Creek and Landsburg

Tiger Mountain

Tiger Mountain State Forest is a big network of trails just north of Hobart and Issaquah. Hikes range from mellow forest loops to steep summits.

  • West Tiger 3: about 5 miles roundtrip and 2,100 feet of gain, with big views from the top
  • High Point trailhead at I-90 exit 20 requires a Discover Pass
  • Poo Poo Point is on Tiger Mountain's west side, off Issaquah-Hobart Road

A steep climb on Tiger Mountain with a Mount Rainier view and paragliders launching off the top. Not for little kids or new hikers.

What are the best outdoor activities near Maple Valley, WA?

Lake Wilderness Park, the Cedar River Trail, and the Gnome Trail are all in Maple Valley. Tiger Mountain and Poo Poo Point in Issaquah are about 20 minutes away, and Denny Creek near Snoqualmie Pass is about an hour.

What are easy outdoor outings near Maple Valley for young kids?

The Gnome Trail is a flat 0.7-mile loop that little kids love. The paved Cedar River Trail works well for strollers and bikes, and Lake Wilderness Park has a play area and a summer swim beach. For a longer outing, Denny Creek has a natural waterslide about a mile in.
